• The cards are dealt, and players take turns drawing from the closed or open deck and discarding one card

The Goal: Be the first player to arrange all cards into valid combinations and declare.

Core Rules of INR Rummy

Pure Sequence (First Life): A pure sequence is a mandatory requirement in Indian Rummy. It consists of three or more consecutive cards of the same suit without any jokers. Examples include 5♣ 6♣ 7♣ or Q♦ K♦ A♦. Without a pure sequence, a player cannot make a valid declaration.

Second Life: A player must also have a second sequence—this can be either a pure sequence or an impure sequence that uses jokers.

Sets: Beyond the two required sequences, players can form sets—three or four cards of the same rank in different suits.

Jokers: Joker cards act as wildcards that can substitute for any other card to help form combinations. Combinations using jokers are known as impure sequences or sets. Jokers themselves are worth 0 points.

Point System

• Number cards: Points equal to their face value

• Face cards (Jacks, Queens, Kings): 10 points each

• Aces: 10 points

• Jokers: 0 points

Penalty: If a player cannot form a pure sequence (First Life), they receive 80 points in total. If a pure sequence is formed, only the remaining invalid card sets are counted.
